Is any among you sick? Let him call for the presbyters of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” – James 5:14
The sacrament of anointing gives one grace as strengthening, peace and courage to overcome the difficulties associated with illness, disease or dying. It is a reminder of God’s healing love at a time when you are facing great difficulties in your life; bringing comfort, hope and confidence in God’s loving presence.
This sacrament is available to you at home at your request. If you or a family member are ill, elderly, preparing for surgery, dealing with a serious diagnosis, or close to death, it is quite in order to ask a priest for Anointing.
If you are a patient in hospital, contact the Chaplain so they know you are there. A priest will anoint you if it is appropriate.
